FAQ

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time

Are we going to have the same student every call?

At the moment you will be changing the student with which you have a call every session.

Is it possible to follow up with the student for a few sessions?

It will be in the future! We are improving constantly.

What happens if I accept the call and can't attend for any reason?

Tutors are subject to strict rules in respect of non-attendance or lateness, and you must therefore use your best endeavours to avoid cancelling sessions that have already been confirmed. In an unfortunate event that you are unable to attend the scheduled session, you must notify us immediately and, in any event, at least 24 hours before the session is scheduled to take place.

What if I come late to the session?

If you are late for the session less than 15 minutes, the session will continue, but you will only be paid for the portion of the session that has actually taken place. No extension of time will be possible. In some circumstances, the student may be late to their session. If the student is late less than 15 minutes, the session will continue for the remainder of the session booked, and you will be paid for the session in full. If the student is late 15 minutes or more the session will automatically terminate, and you will be paid for 15 minutes. You must therefore wait at least 15 minutes if the student is late.

Is it okay if the topic changes in the conversation?

Absolutely. You are free in the approach you want to take as long as you are talking in your native language, having a respectful conversation, using the platform and enjoying it.

How do we reward our tutors?

We incentivize you to continue doing a good job by increasing your rate per session.

Will we be able to read the comments or feedback that the students write about us?

You will be able to see your average rating out of 5. Please feel free to ask the student for some feedback at the end of the session.

What qualities make an excellent tutor?

We believe that an outstanding tutor has the following qualities:

  • Responsibility
  • Honesty and Respect
  • Enthusiasm
  • Interest in the student
  • Kindness in the way she or he talks
  • Empathy
  • Ability to listen, analyse, identify what is needed and act
  • Assertiveness
  • Enjoy the call and spark joy on others.

How can I improve as a tutor if I don't have any previous experience?

Empathy and practice are the best tools. Think as if you were the student, what would you be expecting? Also, feel free to ask for feedback at the end of the call with the student.

What if I have a problem with the internet in the middle of the session?

If the student Wi-Fi fails, we will pay you the whole call. If your Wi-Fi fails, we will pay you only for the work done.

Will I be able to change my availability times?

Yes, of course. You can take sessions on the platform for any time at any point.

How many calls are we going to have per week?

We cannot guarantee any quantity of calls. It depends mainly on your availability and the demand that we have from the students. The system is first come, first served, so be quick for booking sessions, and make sure that you will be able to attend it.

Is there a limit of sessions I can do?

There’s no limit. You are always free to decline or accept the calls.

Do I need to have a special bank account?

No, you don't.

What does it mean to be freelance legally? What does it mean to declare my income?

As stated in our terms and services:
Tutors register on our Platform as independent contractors and are not our partners or employees and should not be construed as such. We are agents of the Tutors only in the limited capacity in relation to the Payments and as defined in Payment Terms in paragraph 10. As a Tutor you are solely responsible for determining your obligations to report, collect, remit or include in the Payout any Tax and any Payout due offered and made to you will be inclusive of any such Tax. You understand that in some instances, the Tax Authority may require Taxes to be collected from Tutors and to be remitted to the respective Tax Authority on behalf of the Tutor. We may also be required by the Tax Authority to collect appropriate tax information from Tutors or to withhold Taxes from Payouts, or both. If you fail to provide the requested information or documentation under the applicable law, we reserve the right to withhold Payouts up to the Tax relevant amount as required by law until resolution. The Company does not and cannot advise you on your Tax liabilities and your duties under this paragraph 11, nor does the Company assume any liability for your failure to comply with any applicable tax reporting or remittance obligations. You acknowledge that as you are not an employee or a worker of the Company, we will not be operating a PAYE system (or equivalent if in other jurisdiction) or, unless we are required to do so by the Tax Authority, making or deducting any national insurance contributions in respect of any Payouts. If any claim, assessment or demand is made against us for payment of Tax, you will indemnify the Company, on a continuing basis, against any liability, assessment or claim together with all reasonable costs and expenses and any penalty, fine, or interest incurred by the company in connection with or in consequence of any such liability, assessment or claim, where such recover is not prohibited by law. The Company may at its option satisfy such indemnity (in whole or in part) by way of deduction from any Payout to be made by the Company to you under these Terms of Service.

Do I have to pay the international transfer fees?

No, you don't.

The content of the sessions is recorded, why and what do you do with the recordings?

You can read all about it in our privacy notice. In short, the sound and the video are sent for secure storage and it gets deleted after 30 days. We will only share it with authorities if legally required, and we will only view it ourselves if we get a complaint about incidents happening during the call. If you or the student report something we can go check the recording to solve the issue.

How much Do I get Paid per session?

We pay you by bank transfer a minimum of €42.50 for 10 sessions of 30 minutes completed with a progression up to €50 for 10 sessions of 30 minutes after a certain number of hours.

How will I get my payments?

We will transfer the money owed to you on the account you indicated during your registration. The payments are made on the 1st and 15th of each month. You must have taught at least 3 sessions for us to proceed to your payment. If you have taught less than 3 sessions in the past 15 days, we will transfer in the next payment round, once you have taught at least 3 sessions. If you want to resign as a tutor and you have done less than 3 sessions in the past 15 days but don’t want to take any other sessions, email us at support@polyglotme.com and we will transfer what we owe you anyway.
